What cedar pruning covers
Cedar hedges are the privacy wall for half the yards in town. Left alone, they get wide at the top, thin at the bottom and start leaning into the neighbour's side.
I prune the face and top so the hedge stays straight, a little narrower at the top than the bottom so light reaches the lower branches.
Hedge pruning done without cutting into dead wood
Cedars don't grow back from brown interior wood. I take off the new growth and keep the green layer intact, so the hedge stays full instead of leaving bare patches.

Questions homeowners ask
How often should cedars be pruned?
Once a year keeps most hedges in shape. Fast-growing ones look best with a light prune twice a year.
Can you lower the height of my hedge?
Yes, within reason. A big drop can leave the top brown for a season while it fills in.
Do you prune cedars in West Kelowna?
Yes. Westbank, Shannon Lake, Glenrosa and the rest of West Kelowna are all in my area.
