What lawn aeration covers
Okanagan lawns sit on sandy, compacted soil that bakes hard through the summer. Water runs off instead of soaking in, and the grass roots stay shallow and weak.
Core aeration pulls small plugs of soil out of the lawn so air, water and fertilizer can actually reach the roots. It is one of the best things you can do for a tired lawn, especially paired with a feed.
When to aerate in the Okanagan
Spring and early fall are the right windows here, when the grass is growing and can recover fast. Lawns that get heavy foot traffic, or that sit on clay pockets common in newer Kelowna developments, often need it once a year.
If your lawn puddles after watering, feels hard underfoot, or thins out no matter how much you water, compaction is usually the reason.

Questions homeowners ask
How do I know if my lawn needs aeration?
If water pools or runs off, the soil feels hard, or the grass stays thin despite watering and feeding, compaction is likely. Aeration fixes that.
When is the best time to aerate?
Spring or early fall in Kelowna, when the grass is actively growing and recovers quickly.
Should I fertilize after aerating?
Yes, it is the best time. The holes let the feed reach the roots directly, so I often do both in one visit.
